More Buying Choices $88.99 (2 …Jun 17, 2021 · Pricking Iron Pricking irons, also known as French-style stitching chisels, produce a unique slanted punch that will give a very nice-looking finish that is often seen in high-end leather products. However, since the prongs are so tiny, it is much more time-consuming if you want to punch holes with a pricking iron. I use my Wuta pricking irons constantly and am very happy with them. I almost always use the #8. I have 7, 8 and 10. It's probably just a personal preference. I consistently use both the obverse and reverse irons. I prick both sides of the leather and use the obverse on the front and the reverse on the back.They make a large hole which is easy to get your needles through but if your goal is fine leatherwork you will probably move on to pricking iron or stitching irons. I personally use Blanchard irons but I don't think they are any better than some random $15 chinese pricking iron from ebay. There just weren't many other options when I started.
